Inspired by the Sci-Fi movie Passengers, the family approached Jackie Lai to create a bold concept of their home where they can live in the future. With the emphasis of ‘no wood’ criteria, the main materials were solid surfacing, metal & glass material with the main difficulty of blending of different materials to maintain the constant tonality. Jackie managed to create a monochromatic color palette of nature-inspired organic spaces with amazing futuristic visual presence, fitted with sophisticated fittings with refined elegance.
It was the non-profit initiative ‘The Cha Project’ to bring back the old glory to Chinatown of Kolkata by founder Rinkoo Bhowmick. Our objective is to save the old heritage oriental building from the demolition, create awareness, respect, restore and putting it to economically viable uses for the sensitive owners, the government, and the public. Jackie provided the design support for this initiative with the assistance of conservation architect Mr Wong Chung Wan and urban-planning solution by Ong & Ong Pte Ltd.
It was a dream come true for children of Afghanistan who have witnessed war and have never experienced a fancy library. It was a pro-bono project to redesign and convert the buses to mobile library stocked with children’s books and carefully navigate the streets of Kabul, avoiding areas where deadly explosions are common. The interior space was to inspire the children and an opportunity to connect them with the world, to its developments especially with regards to technology.
